Frequently Asked Physio Questions

Do I need a referral from my Doctor?

You don’t need a referral to receive physiotherapy as a private patient. However, in cases where you have a Workcover or CTP claim, you do require a GP referral prior to seeing a physio.

If you are a Veteran’s Affairs client you will need a referral from your GP also. This type of referral lasts for up to 12 months from the date of issue.

What should I wear to an appointment?

Try to wear clothing that will allow your physiotherapist to conduct a thorough assessment of the injured area. If it is a lower limb injury, wearing shorts is helpful, though we can lend you pair if need be. If it is an upper limb, neck or back injury we can provide a gown for you to wear if you wish.

Should I bring anything with me?

If you have any xrays, medical reports or other information relating to your injury or condition, it is helpful to bring them with you.

If you are a Workcover or CTP client please bring a current medical certificate and any information from your insurer, eg your claim number, your case manager’s name and contact details.

How can I claim from my private health fund?

If your health insurance covers physiotherapy be sure to have your card with you as we can claim on the spot with HICAPS. You will then only be required to pay the gap. The gap fee depends on your level of cover and varies between health funds. You can pay the gap by cash or card.

If you are seeing one of our health fund recognised massage therapists we can also claim on the spot as log as you are covered for remedial massage. Not all massage therapists can claim from all health funds. Clinical pilates is unfortunately no longer recognised by any private health funds.

How many visits will I need?

This will depend on your injury/condition, the severity and how long you have been suffering with it. We will always do our best to achieve the most effective and efficient results for you.

Where can I park?

Dee Why Parade Clinic -

If you’re coming from Collaroy direction, the best place to park is in the Dee Why Plaza (Old Coles) Car Park. If you’re coming from Brookvale direction, the best place to park is in the Council/Library Car Park. We are located directly above Giovanni’s Italian Restaurant.

There is also street parking available in surrounding streets as well as 2 disabled car spaces located in our own driveway accessible from Dee Why Parade.

Fitness First Dee Why Clinic -

There is plenty of onsite parking in front of Officeworks or in the underground carpark. You can take the stairs or lift straight to Level 2 inside Fitness First above the cafe.

What to expect at your first appointment

You and your physiotherapist will spend the entire session together. We never book more than one person with a physio at a time.

Your condition will be assessed and explained to you in simple terminology and an action plan will be presented to you, giving you an indication of timeframe and the steps required in order to get you back to being painfree.

You can expect treatment from the initial consultation and exercise management right from the beginning.

Home exercise programs are the only way to maintain treatment and to create independence for you. This is done with our Free Live Exercise App. Your physiotherapist will design a personalised program which will be upgraded as you progress.
